Cosa vediamo quando ci guardiamo allo specchio?

Gli specchi sono posti strani, riflettono e distorcono la realtà per farcela vedere come noi la vogliamo vedere.

Ci alimentiamo di bellezza e illusioni quando ci specchiamo dentro a uno specchio che non rimanda mai indietro la verità. Dentro allo specchio, "Through the Glass", viviamo un'altra vita.

Può essere inquietante a volte ma può anche dare sollievo quando l'effetto dello specchio vibra delle stesse frequenze dei nostri bisogni più profondi.

Specchio deriva dal latino "Mirari" (Miror, Mirari, Miratus) che significa essere stupiti e sorpresi o guardare con meraviglia, stupore, ammirazione a qualcuno o qualcosa.

L'atto del rispecchiarsi è quindi qualcosa di molto potente e legato a bisogni interiori e antichi dell'essere umano.

Qualcosa che ha molto a che fare con la fotografia contemporanea e il suo significato nella lotta tra vanità e intuizione.

"La Belle Penseuse" è una serie di fotografie digitali scattate su un set predisposto per creare un effetto "antico", "senza tempo", illuminato con luce flash.

La tecnica mi ha dato l'opportunità di creare una luce drammatica con ombre molto profonde in modo da rendere il mio umile omaggio a grandi maestri della pittura come Georges de La Tour e Artemisia Gentileschi.

What do we see when we look in a mirror?

Mirrors are strange places, they reflect and distort reality to let us see things the way we want to see them.

We feed on beauty and illusions while looking at ourselves in a mirror that never gives back reality. Into the mirror, "Through the Glass", we live another life.

It can be scary somehow but it can also be relieving when the mirroring effect resonates with our deepest needs.

Mirror derives from the Latin "Mirari" (Miror, Mirari, Miratus) that means be amazed and surprised or to look in wonder, awe, admiration at someone or something.

The act of mirroring is thus something very powerful and linked to inner and ancient needs for the human race.

Something that has a lot to do with contemporary photography and its meaning in the struggle between vanity and insight.

"La Belle Penseuse" is a digital photography series taken in a studio space with artificial strobe lights.

Technique gave me the opportunity to create a dramatic light with very strong shadows so as to pay (my contemporary) homage to great masters painters such as Georges de La Tour and Artemisia Gentileschi.
